| Eigenmannia virescens: A species of fresh water fish found in south america that has a unique adaptation, the ability to produce weak electric fields. Eigenmannia detect these fields with specialized electroreceptors and use this electric sense in behaviors including the detection and characterization of objects in its environment, social behaviors, and in the "Jamming Avoidance Response". This behavior, simply known as the JAR, is well understood and the neural circuits for its control have been studied extensively. |
