Molecular Basis of Neurological Disorders

We study the molecular basis of childhood neurological disorders including Down syndrome, autism, and chromosomal disorders. The lab is at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, a children’s hospital and research center. Our lab combines molecular and cell biology approaches with bioinformatics. The techniques we use include single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays and next-generation sequencing to identify chromosomal abnormalities. To help in the analysis and interpretation of high throughput datasets we develop software programs, including SNPtrio, SNPduo, and pediSNP to identify genetic alterations in pedigrees and in populations.
