Neural systems in learning, motivation, and attention
I study mechanisms of behavior. My laboratory’s major research focus is the study of brain systems for appetitive conditioning in rats. Current topics of investigation include the regulation of attention in learning and action, the role of learning processes in feeding and other motivated behavior, and the representation of sensory and motivational information in learning. We use a mix of behavioral and neural systems approaches, combining Pavlovian and operant conditioning procedures with neurotoxic lesions, pharmacological interventions, single-unit electrophysiology, and functional circuit mapping using immediate early gene and tract tracing methods.
